HMK Team Leader Jenny achieves a Distinction
HMK is celebrating another success story amongst our workforce following the latest member of staff to pass their training course with flying colours.
Jenny Johnson joined the HMK Team as a young apprentice – now 13 years on she’s our Internal Sales Team Leader and has just achieved a Distinction in her Level Three Team Leader/Supervisor Course.
Since joining HMK as a 17-year-old Business Administration Apprentice, Jenny has worked her way through the ranks taking advantage of every development and training opportunity that’s come her way.
She now manages a team of five people looking after our customer orders, processing, invoices and after-sales enquiries.
She said: “When I joined HMK I’d just done my first year of AS Levels and decided it wasn’t really for me, then I saw this apprenticeship opportunity at HMK and thought I could learn as I make money at the same time and the rest, as they say, is history.
“I always wanted to continue my education and to learn and develop, so I’ve taken every opportunity that’s come up – including an NVQ in Business Management, a BTEC in Business and a Foundation Degree in Business Management.
“HMK has been fantastic in supporting me through all the training courses and identifying opportunities for me to develop my skills and knowledge. Growing up, I knew I always wanted to work in an office, but I never imagined I would have the job I do now – HMK is a great company to work for.”
Three years ago, Jenny was promoted to our Internal Sales Team Leader – the first time she’d taken on managerial responsibilities, so her latest training course, run in conjunction with Pier Training, has helped prepare her for the role.
She added: “The Level Three Team Leader/Supervisor Course has taken me around 15 months to complete, and it’s been great because the topics I’ve been learning about have really helped me with the day job.
“Management was new to me, but I’ve learnt a lot about managerial skills and how to motivate your team and keep them happy, which is really important to me.
“I’ve also now got an apprentice on my team, who is starting out like I did, so it’s great for me to now be able to pass my knowledge and experience down to him and help him develop his own career.”
HMK runs a successful apprenticeship and training programme to ensure our workforce is equipped with the essential skills as well as practical experience.
Gary Kitchin, Managing Director at HMK Automation Group, said: “Here at HMK, the skills and expertise of our workforce is one of our greatest assets, enabling us to provide that expert knowledge, alongside market-leading products to our customers, and Jenny is a great example of the importance of investing in your workforce.
“We’d like to congratulate Jenny on her latest success - she’s worked incredibly hard to progress her career taking advantage of every development opportunity that’s come her way, and she’s a real asset to the HMK Team.”
