HMK Automation is flying the flag for apprenticeships during this year’s National Apprenticeship Week.
This week is National Apprenticeship Week, which runs from February 6 – 12. The theme for this year’s event is ‘Skills for Life’ and it aims to celebrates the value, benefit and opportunity that apprenticeships can bring, for both individuals and businesses.
Here at HMK, we run a successful apprenticeship programme offering the opportunity for young people to learn new skills and build their future careers.
Our newest apprentice recruit is 24-year-old Connor Jepson who joined the HMK Team in December last year as a Business Administration Apprentice.
Connor is now studying for a Level 3 Apprenticeship in conjunction with Macclesfield College.
He said: “I’d always been interested in doing an apprenticeship, but when I left college I wasn’t that confident and struggled with interviews. I started working in McDonalds which helped with my confidence and customer service skills and then I applied for this apprenticeship at HMK and it’s been great – I’m really enjoying it.
“I didn’t have experience of this industry and it’s very different to what I’ve been used to, but HMK have been great and I get all the support I need. I’d definitely recommend an apprenticeship to anyone else – it’s a really good gateway to a future career.”
Connor is learning the ropes on our Sales Order Team and his responsibilities include administration duties, checking health and safety documentation, ordering office supplies and equipment testing.
He’s supported by his manager Jenny Edwards, who herself joined HMK as an apprentice 16 years ago, when she was just 17-years-old. She’s now our Logistics Manager, heading up our entire ordering and shipping operation at our warehouse in Radnor Park and managing a team of people.
